Admin things

I don’t know if you can tell, but I’ve been doing a lot of admin things on the backend of my business. A big part of that has been tweaking the overall design of my website and playing with fonts and making new images and generally making the website easier to navigate and more fun to consume.

I gotta use that graphic design degree somehow. It was expensive.

My goal is to marry the different aspects of my online presence together in some sort of cohesive way. Before now, I had the SuzeTalks part of my life, which was streaming and video games and such. Then there was the S.M. Butler part, which was writers and readers and books and publishing and planners and journals. But what I want my presence to be is all of that, because that’s who I am.

So you might have noticed little things changing. Like my header and my logo and I even changed my newsletter up. The substack blog will remain and I will cross post those posts here as well until I get tired of it and then we’ll just switch here. But the real newsletter will be this new one, which will go out weekly and contain my stream schedule and any book news I have and generally what’s happening in the business that week. It’s going to be more intentional and less rambly… hopefully. But y’all know me.

I can’t promise that I will post this much on the blog all year. It’s the new year and I have a lot to say, but as the year goes on and things get busy, it might be less. I’m aiming for 1-2 times a week though as regular posts. Hopefully, one will be the serial I’m planning (more on this later) and then the other will just be like, whatever happens to come to mind. I considered trying a subscription plan on Ream, but we’re not ready for that step yet. It might still happen, but we’re going to take things one step at a time instead of my normal M.O. of jumping into the deep end.

If you’ve been around for a while, I do like to try new things, and sometimes they don’t work out, and I nuke them. But sometimes, even when I nuke them, I learn something and I take something away for the next project. Even failures can be successes. It’s likely 2024 will be a lot of trying new things.

But I’ve word-vomited enough and today is the day I start Bloodlines 4’s zero draft. I’ve been playing with it for months, but haven’t really gotten anywhere. Today I get serious with it and I’m gonna finish that sucker this quarter.
