Magic has always existed, but was mostly trapped inside the Earth, away from eager humans. But thirty-five years ago, North Korea, while testing a new kind of nuclear missile, inadvertently created a break in the barrier between our world and the magic world. Magic flooded the surface, creating the beginning of the Change. Entire families with an undetermined genetic abnormality woke up one morning to magic powers, from the ability to control animals to the ability to cause earthquakes or breathe fire.
The Change ushered in World War III, a war that was ten times as destructive as the first two, because the primary combatants were mages. In the aftermath of the war, the government put the onus of rebuilding on the mages, who climbed to wealth and power with the use of their new magic during the war. Most of the Families maintain private armies and own billion-dollar corporations, where sneaky, underhanded tactics are commonplace.
The Federal Magic Bureau was created to police these new powerful Families, staffed with strong and intelligent mages. It has its own problems, of course, like any government-created program, but the organization helps maintain the law that many powerful mages try to circumvent.
In this world lives the Casimir sisters. Nicola and Fiona. Bloodlines chronicles their lives, relationships, and the trouble that always seems to find the Casimir Family.
The Bloodlines series is available online on my Patreon page, exclusively launched in serial form. Supporting me on Patreon guarantees that I’ll be able to continue this series for a long time to come. I hope that you’ll join our little corner of the Internet there and come to love Nicola and Fiona as much as we do.
No Strings Attached
Ashlynn Connolly has been Ethan Kearney’s best friend since they were twelve, despite the difference in their tax brackets. Though he played stupid pranks on her as a child, and left for a career in the Navy, Ash has always stood by him. But now Ethan has a deadline, and he’s going to put their friendship to the test with a business proposition–a marriage proposal.
If Ashlynn hadn’t been flat-out broke, and about to ask for a loan from her best friend, she might have laughed at Ethan’s proposal. But being laid off with a small child to care for alone changes one’s perspective and the idea of being Ethan’s wife is too much to turn down, and not just because of the money he offers.
Getting married is the simplest solution to both their problems, or so it seems. But while the passion between them scorches the sheets, a shadow from Ash’s past prepares to burn them more thoroughly than either ever expected.
